Culture change is far from being a reality…

A UNISON member was recently dismissed at a formal meeting chaired by a band 7 manager, with a HRBP supporting. Band 7 managers do not have the authority to dismiss. Formal meetings are not dismissal hearings. 

Any member of staff that have been dismissed without the correct procedure being followed are urged to get in touch – regardless of union membership – so we can review if this is widespread practice or limited to the Essex locality.

This is a very worrying failure to follow policy and has likely breached the ACAS code of practise as well as the members human rights, article 6.

We are supporting this member with their case and we will be taking this to the Staff Partnership Forum next week, to ask the Executive responsible for Essex to explain how this situation has been allowed to happen.
