UNISON and EEAST update – Meal breaks

At SPF (Staff Partnership Forum), UNISON brought to the executives attention a concern that some crews have been stood down in shops and/or service stations for their meal breaks and an email was circulated from management that set out this was business as usual.

The Trust has an agreement in place that crews can pick up food en route to their meal break. There are stations that have facilities which have been agreed with UNISON as being suitable for meal breaks. These are the only places that crews will be stood down for their meal breaks, unless in exceptional circumstances crews specifically request to have their break somewhere else.

Crews will not be stood down for their meal breaks in shops and/or service stations. Both UNISON and the Trust want to ensure that crews get their full break entitlement and are enabled to do that at an appropriate place.
